14 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 1 John 5:14
—We must ask according to His will. What we ask for must be “approved” by Him. We leave our selfishness out, and seek His will. This is where a lot of bad theology and doctrine has been birthed. The phrase, “anything according to His will” is often left out. When we begin to follow God and commune with Him, we begin to submit our will to His. The closer we walk with God, the less we focus on what we want and the more we focus on what He wants.
16 You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you. John 15:16
—We are chosen by God. This is a powerful revelation. We struggle with so many outside influence’s and frustrations that shape us, we often fail to recognize that the same God that created Heaven and Earth chose YOU to be His. This is an undeniable truth that we should all begin to live and walk in daily.
—We are expected to produce good fruit. As we follow God we learn more about Him. As stated, our desires come into alignment with His desires. When we begin to follow after Him, He pours into us and begins to cultivate fruit. The fruit of the Spirit is given to us, not for our sole benefit, but so those we come into contact with will receive from the Father. Our main purpose is for God’s Kingdom to expand and sinners to serve Jesus.
—We can ask through the Father, in Jesus name and He (Father) will give what we ask for—according to His Will. Once again, this is dependent on “according to His will”.
26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Romans 8:26
—How do I know what His will is to ask for the right things? If it’s imperative to pray according to His will, then we must know His will. If we don’t know it, then how do we pray it? Thank God, all answers are provided! The Spirit of God will most certainly lead us and pray through us so that we are praying according to His will.
12 rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; Romans 12:12
—Rejoice, be patient and keep praying!
9 Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. 10 Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; 11 not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; 12 rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; 13 distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality. 14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. 16 Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion. 17 Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. 18 If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. 19 Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,”[a] says the Lord. 20 Therefore “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans 12:9-21
