In the last year we have been emphasizing personal and corporate prayer at the Hendersonville Church of God. Prayer is essential to our walk with the Lord and we must make it an every day event. Yes, an event. Taking time out isn’t the way we should look at prayer. Making time for God is the wrong view point. We should invite God to set the schedule. We should allow God to set the schedule. We should want God to set the schedule. The Bible tells us that “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord,
And He delights in his way.” Psalm 37:23 So why not trust Him to set the schedule?
There are times when life does seem to come at us so unexpected that we would really question whether or not God has set those steps! Those are the times we must slip away and meet with the Lord. Recently, one of our dear seniors passed away. His daughter in-law was doing some cleaning and found an old poem that appeared in the church bulletin some 20+ years ago. With her permission, I’d like to share that with you today:
SLIP AWAY
By: Lowell Medley
Slip away when life’s pressures
Seem more than you can bare,
For Jesus does care for you
And HE knows your every care.
So keep watching the Eastern sky:
He could well return today;
Victory is yours through prayer
If you’ll just slip away.
Slip away when you are tempted,
When doubts come in like a flood;
Resist Satan and he will flee,
You need only plead the BLOOD.
He will keep you through each trial,
Will go with you all the way.
Blessing you alone in prayer
When you find time to slip away.
Slip away when you are troubled,
When you feel alone and blue.
Just get in touch with Jesus,
He is waiting there for you.
Yes, He loves you with a love
That goes far beyond today,
Joy comes through secret prayer
Each time you slip away.

Wonderful to know that perhaps he (my father-in-law-) will be able to touch someone new today
This is Great Pastor Steve, I needed that poem this morning.
